The name Vilebrequin, which means “crankshaft”, gets its name from the creator’s passion for cars.The pronunciation is a bit tricky if you don’t know a little french, it goes something like: Vil-bre-ken. Back in the 70s the swim briefs were the popular style, Fred Prysquel revolutionized the swimwear fashion designing colorful shorts made out of spinnaker canvas and a cut inspired by surfer’s trunks. It quickly became popular on the beaches of Saint Tropez and from there to the world.
