Vilebrequin, the most iconic swimwear brand to date, was created in 1971 in Saint Tropez by Fred Prysquel. The name Vilebrequin, which means “crankshaft”, gets its name from the creator’s passion for cars. The pronunciation is a bit tricky if you don’t know a little french, it goes something like: Vil-bre-ken.
Back in the 70s the swim briefs were the popular style, Fred Prysquel revolutionized the swimwear fashion designing colorful shorts made out of spinnaker canvas and a cut inspired by surfer’s trunks. It quickly became popular on the beaches of Saint Tropez and from there to the world.
With three collections a year; Spring – Summer, High-Summer – Autumn, over 100 colors, patterns and prints to choose from. It is clear why Vilebrequin is on top of the game in luxury swimwear.
In the beautiful Caribbean, we enjoy the easy summer weather permanently and swim-shorts are like a second skin to me. This week I’m proud to partner with Vilebrequin and show you my favorite pieces from the new collection and enjoy together this “Summer All year Long” in the Caribbean Sea.
Seahorses Sushi
Let’s start with one of my favorite pieces this season: The classic Moorea, the iconic original from the 70’s. This pair called Seahorse Sushi has a whimsical print with sea horses in a bright poppy red and cyan blue, they make a perfect high contrast that pops in the daylight beautifully. They’re really comfortable, If you don’t own a pair, let me tell you, these shorts are roomy enough to move easily while swimming, walking or even running.
They come with side pockets and can be folded into the back pocket to become a pouch which is one of my favorite things, especially when you are packing to travel or if you wanna bring a second option to the beach when you’re spending the whole day under the sun. The tying cords with engraved zamac aglets are signature in any Vilebrequin, these kind of finishings are what make Vilebrequin the best. Made of 100% Polyamide and 100% Cotton fine-mesh interlining help this pair of trunks dry really fast.
